Please share your ride experiences, photos et al here on cyclists.in... they will serve both as mementos for all of us randonneurs... and as inspiration/information for others who will be randonneuring in the months ahead...

Mumbai Randonneurs - BRM-200 - The Ride of Good Hope - 13 Nov 2011 - Sanjay Gandhi National Park (Borivli) to Hotel Aaram (Amboli) and back to SGNP

Ride Report:
28 cyclists signed up; 2 couldn't make it to the start point due to health and technical reasons
Of the 26 cyclists who started the brevet, 2 dropped out (one midway to the turnaround for tech reasons, the other 3 km before the turnaround point because it was too late)
Finally, 23 cyclists finished within the cutoff time, and 1 finished a few minutes after the cutoff time.
Ok, ok, bored with the statistics, eh... ;-) well, here are some interesting tidbits... :
  • First, a standing ovation to 43-year-old Dharmendra Sachan, who successfully completed the entire 200 km within time... with a UK leg (like a Jaipur foot)... he had lost his left leg at the age of 7... took up cycling 3 years ago... was attempting such a long distance for the first time... and he finished it... against all odds! :-) Total respect from all the riders! Looking forward to his participation in more brevets in the future... may he make it all the way to Paris in 2015!
  • the first two cyclists to complete the brevet were 54-year-old David Williams and 56-year-old Mohinder Singh Bharaj respectively (at the turnaround point, Mohinder Singh was first and David Williams, second)... like old wine, these two just get better with age! both of them belong at the PBP, for sure! :-)
  • Jagan Mohan Rao (the other 50+ rider) got a flat tyre just before the end (of what was by far his longest-ever ride)... and instead of wasting time on replacing the tube, he decided to simply walk the last bit to the finish! :-)
  • 16 cyclists were attempting such a distance (100+ kms) for the first time... and this was obviously their first-ever BRM...
  • the temperature in the afternoon was a blazing 40-44 degrees... combine this with Mumbai's humidity... and a shadeless national highway... and voila! we have a scorcher of a ride... ;-)
  • Achyuta Parlapally (a first-timer), knew towards the end that he was not going to make it within the cutoff time, but he just kept going and finished it, a few minutes after the cutoff time...
  • Sagar Padwal (another first-timer) knew he was running behind time, officially dropped out of the brevet 3 km before the turnaround, but continued to cycle all the way back to Mumbai, reaching the end-point late at night...
