Event Description

What is Randonneuring?

Randonneuring is a type of organised long distance bicycle riding, typically covering a distance between 200 and 1,200 kilometres.

What is Populaire?

There are randonneuring rides under 200 kms too. But, these are not official Randonneuring rides but they are held to introduce and boost confidence for people new to Randonneuring.

I am interested can you tell me more?

Route: Dadar-Karnala-Dadar(route will be finalised by 1st May)

Distance: 101.5 kms

Maximum Time: 6 hours and 40 minutes

Start Time: 6 a.m.

End Time: 12:40 p.m.

Start Point: Shivaji Park, Dadar

End Point: Shivaji Park, Dadar

Turnaround point: Hotel Satkar Palace, Opposite Hotel Vithal Kamat

What are the Rules?

Though Populaire doesn't have hard and fast rules as Randonneuring you are encouraged to prepare as if it is a Randonneuring ride.

What are the basic Requirements for Randonneuring?

1. White Front Lights

2. Red Tail Lights

3. Helmet

4. Bandolier

5. Basic Bicycle Repair Kit

OK I am interested. How much do I have to pay?

Unlike commercial events, there are no high charges for Randonneurs. And since Populaire has no administrative overhead, there will be no (or nominal) charges levied.

But, the downside is that you don't get any goodies like Chinese Soup Bowls to protect your precious head or pain balm to relieve you from the pain of the long ride. But, you do get an opportunity to enjoy riding

What is expected from the participants?

Populaire is to prepare the participants for upcoming brevet rides so they will be held in the same spirit as the Brevets. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient for the ride. They may take help from co-riders but support vehicles are strictly not allowed.

Participants are also expected to have a fun time.

You also need to consider head winds on your return, as it would be monsoon season and the roads are open without any tree cover. The road back to Pune has a gradual climb.

the elevation is from around 600mtr to 1266 mtrs and also see there are 2/3 troughs, so it is not pure rolling, I think though I m a newbie in these matters.

The forward journey of the first 100km will be tough but the return will not be difficult as its mostly rolling...

Not leg power but lung power. There's enough time to prepare.

OMG , there was not even a CAT 5 Climb in this 100+km ride !!! , and the 200km BRM has 2 of CAT 2 , 2 of CAT 3 and 1 of CAT 5 Climbs. and only a Month left. I doubt it. Well Best of luck guys who are going for it. Practise your CLIMBS, thats where ur LEGPOWER is tested !!

Guys had a blast today and todays ride was a great experience for me and it has boosted my self-confidence a lot. I thank all my co-riders and truly enjoyed their company, missed many members from the group who could not make it, and a special thanks to Mehul for organizing this event and hope he keeps on doing more of these in future.
