Hi friends....i noticed many cycling tracks alongside roads in Pune...but disappointed to see they are really not in use...since unused that good strip aside road is now being used for parking autos, vehicles, dumping materials etc..etc..this space made available could have been better used for joy riders, fitness lovers, regular riders within city, pollution free travel...i guess either this facility is not promoted well by corporation or there must be something not in my knowledge about the use of this track.
they are unused for a very simple reason: they are UNUSABLE!
they are made of paver blocks.. a darned uncomfy surface to ride on.. do a coupla kms on them.. u'll see what i mean...
I don't support this idea of building tracks dedicated to cycles unless they are at least 10 - 15 ft. wide. Even the track built in BKC (Mumbai) is useless. It is damaged within just a month from its inception.
The cycling track should be built along side railway. I don't know what stops them for doing so? How come they afford so much money just to waste it?? The entire expenditure for this BKC track is gone now. No-one rides on it. And yeah, for me it's quite joyful to ride on highways.
NO MORE BICYCLE TRACKS ANYWHERE IN INDIA NOW UNLESS THEY ARE BUILT WITH FABRICATED SHEETS / HIGH QUALITY CEMENT AND AT LEAST 10-15 FT. WIDE
