Need suggestions on bicycle ranging between 12-18k Max

Hi All,

Could you suggest the best cycle for me within the maximum range of 18k. Things which i am looking with

1)Good Build quality(at least should withstand pot holes in indian road and should able to do normal speed in that).

2)At this price going for disc brake is not a sensible thought, so no disc brake.

3)Shouldn't have much trouble with the gear system. Heard few models of different cycle brands has some gear shifting issues.

4) Shouldn't give pain on wrists and should be reasonably comfortable for long rides (say for eg.,30kms ride)

My height is 5.9' and weight around 83kg.

My ride will be on weekends and occasionally to office which has 40 kms(2 ways).

Please suggest me good cycles as per my needs stated above.

Brand which i preferred to take

Note: My brother owns BTWIN rockraider 340 but i am not totally satisfied with the comfort level and i could feel the pain on my wrist.

(1) I think at your budget, most models will meet this modest requirement. You need not be overly worried that your bike will fall apart if you ride over pot-holes.

(2) I agree.

(3) Again, I think you should be ok with most choices in that price bracket. Keep in mind that most shifting issues are dues to minor adjustment inaccuracies. They are usually not bike/groupset specific. Even a 50k model can show up some issues in shifting, but a couple of turns on a nut in the right place, and you will be back to shifting freely. I would again drop this as a factor. It is normal to have minor shifting issues on new bikes. Once you get the hang of it, these are easy to fix even at home.

(4) Very important factor, which only you will be able to decide on test rides. Note that the Rockrider model you tried probably had an aggressive forward position for better control. It would not be the most comfortable bike for longer leisure rides. Maybe you should try and see what road-focused hybrids are available in your idea and shortlist the ones that allow you a relatively upright riding position. This would reduce the chances of wrist pain.
