Indian Cyclists Network

I am planning for few modification to my trek 3700. Listing the same below:

1. Changing the Crankset gears from 24/34/42 to 48/38/28 (more commonly used in hybrid bikes).

2. There are 7 Cogset gears (13/34). There is a big gap between (size and teeth) last and second last gear. This I feel is not a good situation while dealing with steep climbs. Is it possible to put a 11/32T grea set while reatining the existing largest gear? Would that give me smoother transition without lossing on the gear ratio.

Let me know your thoughts? Possible-not possible, benefitial-not benefitial, sustainable-not sustainable?
