Hi everyone,

Nice to be on this network. I’ve been a cyclist for a really long time, since my teenage days, when I used to do stunts on my american HARO freestyler stunt bmx, hangin’ out & doin’ it with Chembur’s leading cyclists & stunt bmxers. We were trendsetters for our suburb, & brought about a chain reaction of generating new cyclists in the suburb, & suddenly the place was full of BMXs, mostly Indian ones, & whetever else people could get their hands on. I think those were the golden days of cycling for me, at least so far, the roads were less cluttered with automobiles, now the economic development has led to more crowded roads, & more automobiles, putting us cyclists mostly at the very side of the road, clinging on to that space, everything for a safe ride, & because we love cycling. I also had an imported ‘Gear’ make racer, that was also a pleasure to ride, & I should say in those “golden days” for the chembur cyclists & bmxers, the cyclists ruled the road. No automobile honked at us, because we totally ruled the road, no side-tracked cycling, we were always in the middle. I have not done any long-distance cycling so far, except for a bit of Chembur-Matunga rides in those days, & just started some rides on Eastern Express Highway. Hope to increase the amount of cycling I do gradually now. My Firefox Dart 2.6 Disc 21 speed is pretty new, my first bike after 10 years. I happen to be in the manufacturing field. I did a 1 year job assignment about 10 years back at a beautiful Karnataka location called Kolar Gold Fields, 80 kms from Bangalore where I had a dual suspension geared ‘Hero’ Mountain Bike, great bike with which I used to commute to work, & my surroundings were lovely looking woods & trees most likely eucalyptus, which would sort of glow at night, very nice natural location to live in & work & there was this turn down a small hill, on which I would take my hands off the handle & let the bike steer itself with a little help from the way I control my body weight to maneuver the bike, that was my control on the bike, though I probably wouldn’t try anything like that again, it’s only possible in places very there are much fewer cars & 4 wheelers. I have started cycling again after a gap of 10 years, on weekend mornings. There’s plenty of inspiration pouring in from fellow cyclists here who are going on some really exciting cycling expeditions, sometime I plan to join some of them. In case you are from Chembur or around, do drop me a message, maybe we can try to cycle together.

Happy riding.

Did my first bit of hardcore cycling – Eastern Express Highway upto Powai, though it sounds like I’ve just made a start, on Dassera day. Been collecting accessories & safety gear, hoping to train myself more in cycling, with the help & co-operation of the experienced cyclists here.
