Chain break...

hi guyz

I had just borrowed a friend's Hero 18 gear bike for practice this weekend. However, after some 20 km or riding on Friday when I again rode it on Sunday, out of nowhere the chain broke.

Now, the bike is fairly new, maybe 3 months. It's rarely used... once in a week for 5 km or so.

In this case what can be the reason for chain breakage? Can the chain of inferior quality? Was the gear alignment not proper? Can 20 km of riding put so much stress on the gears for them… Continue

Hi Dhaval, I need to check which photographs you have seen. I keep doing small changes to my bicycles. I have three frames that I keep using, a Gios steel road, an Olmo steel road and a Hero Thunder alloy MTB. I ride the Gios most frequently- it has a 105 set up- 10 speed and 23c tires. The Olmo has an 8 speed set up- down tube shifters and 28c tires. The Thunder is now a road bike (only the frame is MTB) and has cantilever brakes and I use it in two versions, one single speed for commutes, and one fixed gear. 1.75 " tires for commutes and 1.2" tires for fixed gear riding.

hi dhaval
it was a great feat - 500 km in 5 days on a non-geared bike. its a long time - why there's no repeat? or betters?
navi mumbai cyclists was created with cyclists from navi mumbai in mind. why don't you join us for a ride - then become member. we are placed far away from you. would you be able to be a regular?
will post a ride soon.

arre... the body is a pretty good piece of equipment!!
also.............. slow down!! :-) remember the simon and garfunkle song... slow down, you move to fast... got to let th morning last... just looking for fun and feelin groovy!!
so actually both things i've touched on are related to the larger philosophy of why i home-school (more correctly we are home learners and i am as much a learner). the first is about consumerism and how it feeds on a low sense of self esteem and self worth (you, your mind, your body, your soul is not valued for itself but for what you have!!) and that in turn is cultivated in school!!
and.... slowing down is what it's about!! take some time to sniff th flowers!!
i have to say that even for me and my kids living in a city it hasn't been easy to get off the conveyor belt.... and we still struggle with many issues. at best we recognize some ultimate goal of sustainable living and crawl slowly towards it!
