I was there with my daughter and saw for myself the utter lack of co-ordination between your own team of event managers forget that between the event management team and the police.
The Mumbai Marathon is an event which is at least 20-30 times bigger than this. They too take the same permissions from the same departments, including the sea link. How can they manage flawlessly and these people can't. I have been going for the Marathon for the last 6 years and not even once… Continue

I am very happy to post this message: I completed one year of commuting to office in Mumbai. I cycle regularly from TIFR Colaba to Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education near Anushakti Nagar Bus depot. The round trip is about 52km. On an average I take about 1hr 15min for each trip. My best timing so far was 1hr 5min. I did this in all seasons.
I ride Trek 7100 (hybrid). So far I had two punctures on the rear wheel. Considering that I covered so many miles, this I think… Continue

Musings of a Randonneur
300km brevet: Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai.
I am often asked by my curious non-cyclist friends as to what is this Randonneuring? And why do I have suddenly taken a fancy to it? They ask me this question because I often give them the slip on Saturday nights.
Randonneuring is essentially an endurance ride with a time limit. You can call it a cycle marathon in a… Continue

I started at 4.15 am on Saturday, Feb 28, 2009, from Pune. The Dehu-road traffic was frightful but the highway was still manageable. The climate was very pleasant with minimal traffic on NH4 till 6 am. Encountered pleasant expressions/gestures from joggers on the Lonavala-Khandala stretch. I enjoyed the Khandala-Khopoli ghat most, as it was total downhill of 10 KM.
I crossed Vashi at around 11 am and reached Kings Circle at 12:40 pm. I had my lunch and much needed break at kings… Continue

I had a year plan of 2009 to ride Pune-Mumbai-Pune (did on Feb 28 & March 01), Pune-Bangalore and Pune-Delhi. Jaydeep (my companion on Pune-Goa ride) saw my Pune-Bangalore plan on cyclists.in and wrote me about his interest to join but he can’t as he is leaving for Germany in first week of September, 2009. He also wrote about his plan of Pune-Goa ride, scheduled for last week of April. As the trip date was just 2-3 days away and I was not prepared for it either… Continue

Good fun riding to Marine Drive yesterday...
Finally got some time off client projects and decided to go for a quick morning ride yesterday. Since Friday was Ram Navami, there was far less traffic on the roads. Weather was pretty decent too (till about 9am). I left at 6.15 am from Santacruz.
Since I'd already ridden to the central, western, eastern and northern suburbs, South Mumbai was the only way to go. I initially planned to cycle to Haji Ali and back. But once I… Continue

It is a sad day for Mumbai and indeed India as a whole that terror can be initiated so easily and swiftly. It's very disturbing to see innocent people being taken hostage at top hotels from last night. Mumbai still bleeds, people are still tense, many have not gone to office.
Police are telling people to stay home. Schools and colleges shut. In this climate, I find it astonishing that some members are STILL planning to go ahead with upcoming rides in Mumbai.… Continue
