Alvin,
Cycles are registered like a motor-vehicle in England i.e. they have a registration number too, but not here for sure.
Here we are expected to have a white reflector in the front, a red reflector at the rear, if you have full mudguards you need to get the lower end at the tailend painted white & a red reflector mounted on it, DON'T...RIDE INTO A NO-ENTRY STREET, ON SIDEWALKS, ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE STREET (i.e against the flow of traffic), JUMP A RED-LIGHT AT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL, WEAVE IN & OUT OF TRAFFIC, CARRY A PILLION (i.e. a second person on your cycle), STOP TO CHAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD THEREBY OBSTRUCTING A SMOOTH FLOW OF TRAFFIC.
Helmets, gloves, head/tail lights(necessary if there are no reflectors mounted front/back), sunglasses are all OPTIONAL. NO NUMBER PLATE IS REQUIRED AT ALL & if the cop tells you this the next time, just ask him to shove it you know where.
These are all the rules...

my knowledge may be rusty...but i do not think there are any rules for vehicles that do not have an engine...y even an eletric scooter need not have a registration & number plate..so surely nothing for cycles...as far as road rules..well..just common sense..nothing else I guess...

A Number Plate for a bicycle. Heck, that's a first - never heard of it before. Next thing, they'll be asking us for "licen dikhao"
OTOH, you could have shown him the Chassis number of your Bike :-)
He probably just got ticked off with your retort.
I have my Chassis number stored under Notes in my Mobile Phone.

Thanks anool
but just wanted to also check
is there any number plate or a chassis plate to be displayed

the reason i put this blog up was because at a nakabandi on this Tuesday i was trying squeez through a car and the barricade of the naka bandhi on my cycle wherein i also expressed my frustration to myself saying to myself " kya musibath hai yaar"
thats when a cop asked me to step aside and listed the following is required ( a bel, headlight, helmet which i found reasonable but he said there is a number plate also required) thank god he left me soon after that lecture
but i then asked myself it thats true and required by the law.
Regards,
Alvin

Daytime essential - Helmet, Eye wear (UV resist goggles, whatever)
Night time essential : Helmet, Front + Rear Lights, Eyewear

If you're a stickler for rules, Stop at Red Light signals.
If not, try not to get knocked off.

Riding in congested locations, get a Face Mask

That is an interesting question! I wonder what the response is going to be.
Personally I have been bad with rules-regulations. Not the right person to answer.
