Bicycling Trip advice - Manali - Leh, or Shimla - Spiti - Manali

Hi Guys,

I'm currently in the process of planning a cycling trip for July end - Aug first week. Trip duration is not an issue. Initially I wanted to do Manali - Leh - Manali trip but i was advised that for this route one should have a backup vehicle at all times. Some people also told me that alternatively I should look at doing the Shimla - Spiti - Manali route which is also very scenic. I need your expert advice on the following questions.

1] Which route do you guys suggest and why
2] Whats the road like? I'm already assuming that its going to be 65% off roading (bad roads or dirt road) and 35% proper roads on both the routes.
2] On the Manali - Leh route are there villages at regular intervals (like 30-40kms interval) where one can eat/rest/put up for the night.
3] Similarly on the Shimla - Spiti- Manali route are there villages at regular intervals (like 30-40kms interval) where one can eat/rest/put up for the night.
4] Should i carry my 2 man tent and sleeping bag?
5] Whats the weather like during Last week of July/ Aug first week on both the routes and does it rain a lot? (Trip duration is not an issue and Im not looking at rushing myself, I want to be at liberty to halt at certain places (ones I like) for a day or two)
6] Any additional suggestions/ Advice that i should also consider.

I have my own bicycle (Trek 3700) and I do have cycling experience although not of cycling at this altitude. I plan to keep this a low budget trip and hence cannot afford to have a back up vehicle.

Hi, everything right now is on the drawing board stage, initially i was thinking of doing either Manali - Leh or Shimla-Spiti-Manali route but now i am even looking at an extended trip from Shimla-Spiti-Leh-Manali which could be for a month or even 45 days. I just want to do this trip at a relaxed leisurely pace and will carry my own tent to keep it a low budget trip. You are welcome to join in on this trip.

@satyaprakash - Yes I did read that, but i will do this trip in a relaxed/chilled out way and not with a tour operator.
