Completed my first long ride (110 Km) succssfully

As I planned, I had completed my 110 Km ride on 11th (Last Sunday) from Cochin to Mangalam Dam. I would like to share my experience here.....

My cousin, Dr Jerry, and myself started at 6:30 AM (Presence of a doctor made me more more confident :). Actually we wanted to start more early, but fear of stray dogs (one of the main threat in all Indian cities) forced us to wait for good day light even we were prepared with pepper spray to protect our-self against street dogs. We had selected the route NH 47. Our plan was to cover maximum distance before sun is become more hot. After 35 KM we stoped for break fast and taken 30 min break and refilled our water bottles with Gatorade, the energy drink we had carried. Initial 2 hours we used to ride over Over-Bridges. But later we deiced to skip over-bridges to save our energy. After 5 hours our energy drinks (Gatorade) and water drained out. We stopped at road side tender coconut merchant and filled our bottle with coconut water and taken 20 min brake. We continued our ride and reached our most challenging phase - Kuthiran hill in NH 47, the hill need to pass to reach our destination. Most difficult part is the 10 KM of steep slop to reach the hill top. Forced use to use the top gear (1X1). Unfortunately my co-rider suffered from Muscle camps and forced to retire fro ride. I continued my ride and managed to complete the Kuthiran hill with one stop. The main challenge was that, the hill road is single line and with heavy traffic mainly because of festival season (The most popular festival in Kerala, ONAM is in next week). We forced to stop and give side to heavy vehicles as its not easy for them to stop or reduce their speed because of the heavy load they are carrying and steep slop. Day was getting more and more hot and Last one hour was really stressful. Thanks for the tender coconut  merchants where from we had filled our bottles. I had reached at the destination, my wife house at Mangalm Dam (one of the tourist destination in Kerala) at 1:30 PM. My father in-law welcomed me with a bottle of Johnnie Walker :)

It was really a good experience and gives high confident for my future rides.

I am planning for my next 200+ Km ride from Cochin to Trivandrum..... Before that I need some preparations...need to understand how to change/repair and other basic maintenance of cycle as its difficult to find a cycle mechanics during long ride. Last time fortunately I didn't face any such incidents....

Great to know about such a wonderful experience from you.

I am also from Cochin.

I owns a ROCKRIDER 300.

Ping me if you go for any shorter rides within Cochin since my bike is not that much optimized for longer rides.
