I went on a tour of Gujarat from 2nd Oct. But could complete only 2500km. up to Bhuj. Returned home from there on 29th by train.
I covered west, south Gujarat, saurashtra whole Kuchcha the coastal part up to Narayan Sarovar and then on to Matano Madh. I ended cycling there. By bus reached Bhuj and then home by train.
The route took me to Bhivandi, Charoti Mahalaxmi Temple,Vapi,Valsad, Gandevi, Billimora, Amalsad, Navsari, Surat, vadodra, Anand, Nadiad, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Sarkhej, Virmgam, Surendranagar(Vadhvan), Lakhtar, Chotila, Rajkot, Palitana, Bagdana, Mahuva, Jaffrabad, Una, Diu, Somnath, veraval, Junagadh, Girnar, Porbandar, Dwarka, Okha, Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar, Khambaliya, Jamnagar, Dhrol, Maliya, Samakhilya, Gandhidham, Kandala, Mundra, Mandavi, Naliya, Narayan Sarovar and Koteshwar, Matanomadh.
Chotila - there is a Temple of Devi Chamunda. You have to climb about 550 steps to reach it. Do visit on a trip to Gujarat.
Palitana - 3600 steps to climb. The Jain temple at the top are a feast to the eyes. The idols are all similar looking, they are not an attraction for a tourist like me. But temples are really very beautiful. More than worth climbing these many steps. No water or eatables are available at the top or enroute. Carry enough with you. Must visit place.
Diu - I liked it the most. Goa, Daman like place but more peaceful. Visit the Gangeshwar Temple when the tide is in.
Girnar - The legend says that it has 9999 steps. I feel they are about 7500. Tough climb if you are not accustomed to climing hills often. Fit persons should do the trip up to Gurushikhar. High point of the trip for me. It is in the midst of Gir Sanctuary. So green all around. I was dead tired by the time I reached Taleti. I had reserved a day for it. Rightly so. The calfs did pain for two days slightly. Faced no other problem.
Mahuva, Somnath, Porbandar, Diu and other places have beaches. They are good. Walking in the waves freshens you up at any time of the day.
Gujarat has many very good temples. But I feel they look alike. So did not visit many specially. Akshardham Temple opens at 9.30am. Luggage and cycle pose a problem.
To visit Kandla and Mundra Ports you need a pass. arrange it in advance.
Pipvav no visitors please. defence establishment so no entry.
Traffic in all cities is chaotic. No rules are observed. So be very careful in crowded areas. Surat takes the cake.
Road side dhabas provide food at affordable rates. But the fare presented is mostly Shev-tomato bhaji, Brinjal, Potato form the vegetable side of thali. Only in some hotels you get other dishes. Butter milk watery variety is provided in litres. You can indulge yourself in cities.
I lived in temples in few places, dharmashala, guest houses and near dhabas in the open.
Over all I enjoyed the tour and hope to complete the remaining part north and east Gujarat in future.
