you know it's monsoon when you leave for a century ride at 12 noon! and if you didn't know it yet you can be sure of it when you get caught in a torrential downpour!!
pankaj (my 12 yr old son) and i spent the better part of the morning fixing our new mud guards to the bikes and were ready to leave only at 12pm. until last week it would have been impossible to even conceive of such a late departure but with a wonderful cloud cover and grey skies to protect us from the sun we ventured out at high noon!
a strong headwind as we rode toward lonavala slowed us down but we made up for it after turning around. and all the time we kept hoping it would rain..... nothing like cycling in a light drizzle!!
after passing dehu road junction our prayers were answered.... and how!! we rode back in torrential rain, lightening, thunder, road or river we couldn't tell.... the highest recorded rainfall in any one hour in pune!! WHOOWHEE!! we loved it, could hardly stop grinning!
it was a little scary, with the traffic going crazy and visibility so low and being stung by the rain and finally having to cycle thru a foot deep water at places where the road was completely flooded!
but what a ride!
