The Btwin is better than the Fomas.

Look around a bit more and come back and tell what you can find.

16.5k is an ideal budget for a hybrid - if you aren't going to bash around too much, that is.

I was in the exact same position as you exactlt a year ago. I bought a Schwinn Frontier Sport for Rs. 12500 at that time (the cost is about 19k now). My friend at that time bought a Giant Revel 1. He paid 17.9k.

I used the bike for a few months for cycling around college and the occasional medium long (50km) ride.

Eventually, I found out that I was really into cycling. The light trail riding that I had started off with turned more into bashing and long rides at night through the forests of the Western Ghats.

That was the time I really felt the inadequacy of the bike. The tires were hopeless so I had to shell in 3k for new Bontrager ones.

In time, I found out that the bike I had bought was useless to upgrade so I had to go for a new one, that I wouldn't upgrade for the next 3 years. I bought a Cannondale Trail SL 2 a few weeks ago. It set me back upwards of half a lakh.

My friend still has the Revel 1. He can upgrade his bike as he wishes. The bike will eventually become better than mine (after upgrading) and it will cost him less than the 70k combined it cost me to get a bike that adheres to my requirements.

That is why I always maintain, buy the bike you can almost NOT afford. I guarantee you won't regret it.

- Go for brands like Giant and Schwinn.

- Look for second-hand Cannondales.

Get a good aluminium bike, preferably the Schwinn Sporterra if you want a hybrid. For a bit of trail bashing, check out Giant's Revel series.

My sincere advice, again, LOOK BEYOND INDIAN BIKES.

Most of them at this range are designed for kids.
