Indian Cyclists Network

Hi All

Today is a black day for my cycling programme. My brand new trek 4300 purchased just 25 days back was stolen today from my garage/stilt parking . I had the firefox wirelock on, and still somehow it got stolen. The wirelock was surprisingly in place and the cycle was missing. i lodged a complaint at kandivali police station, but as you know how things work at police stations, they made me wait for 2 hours, then nothing. Just a small mention of the theft in the Information( nondni) book.

I had my old raleigh parked in front of the trek and it was moved aside and the trek taken away..Thieves are getting smarter and are working overtime. They can now know the prices of such bikes. Or maybe he would sell my 25K bike for 5k!!who know

Through this post, i wish to highlight that please be careful. Also this is a bit too much, but i am trying my luck with our cyclists fraternity,..my cycle was the 2010 model trek 4300 (black silver) and had a chasis no..TBI 0406( MTU 104200310-25401A75E...if somebody is offered a trek at throw away prices just please remember, it might be my cycle which was stolen..do check the chasis number and inform me at 9821345648

Once I recover from this, i hope to be back on the roads soon.

Please secure your bikes and better still get insurance

Sanjeev T...........precisely what i had been thinking...somebody from the group of cyclists might be the informer( i know it sounds kinda bad, but u never know as there are many fake profiles and ppl just come to know of addresses very easily

With cycling awareness growing among middle/ upper middle class people may be you can ask the building/ s0ciety commitee if its ok to store the bike in pump room or some other enclosed area. i know some friends in pune who carry their bikes to their flats on upper floors.

Hi All...As rightly suggested by Amit Bhowmik, I have uploaded 2 photos. One is a close up and the other suggests how the cycle was parked in the stilt parking ....the cycle has 2 distint marks...the left pedal shaft is having a big scratch which happened during assembling and the handle bar also has a scratch near the left brake..

@mandar....sorry to hear abt ur bike..@ anool..thx for the inputs regarding safety...@ Amit Bhowmik...good idea...i will do it right away..@ Rohit...ps keep ur cycle parked at ur home, as this was suggested in a personal message to me by Amit Bhowmik also...the security guards are generally hand in glove with thieves

I just bought a trek 4300 a month ago and I can imagine how it feels to lose it to thieves.....I guess thieves will always find a way around locks and alarms. Insurance is the best bet....at least you'll get something back. ... I've ordered one of those alarm gizmos on the link posted by Anool...I'll try it out.
Hope you recover your machine......

Do post some clear pics of your bike. Might help members keep an eye out for it.

@Amitabh / Mandar : You could try this gizmo and hopefully it should deter thieves in the future :

US$7 with free shipping is worth trying. I've not used this product, so cannot vouch for it !

or maybe this (which looks to be more expensive) :

(again, I've not used/tried it)
