I started at 4.15 am on Saturday, Feb 28, 2009, from Pune. The Dehu-road traffic was frightful but the highway was still manageable. The climate was very pleasant with minimal traffic on NH4 till 6 am. Encountered pleasant expressions/gestures from joggers on the Lonavala-Khandala stretch. I enjoyed the Khandala-Khopoli ghat most, as it was total downhill of 10 KM.
I crossed Vashi at around 11 am and reached Kings Circle at 12:40 pm. I had my lunch and much needed break at kings Circle. At around 4:30 pm I started for Shivaji Park, Dadar where I had to meet up with Mumbai riders. I did a ride “Critical Mass” of 6 KM with Mumbai riders around Dadar region. It was an awesome experience. Mumbai riders are too enthusiastic; they all came from different parts of city by riding 30-40 KM just for a cause “Critical mass”( a bicycling event to assert cyclists' right to the road). I stayed at Dadar for night.
I started back my journey for Pune at 5:15 am on Sunday, March 01, 2009, from Dadar. The Khopoli-Khandala ghat was breath taking. I reached Lonavala at 11:45 am and had my lunch there. As the weather was too hot, I decided to stay at Lonavala till 3:30pm. The sun was still harsh and the weather was very dry, when I started cycling from Lonavala to Pune stretch. Due to heat, I was forced to take many small halts and have water quite many times. By the mercy of God I was glad to be back safe and with a feeling of contentment for the small achievement.
